I'm not sad, I'm just disapointed.

2005-03-05 at 9:25 p.m.

Where shall we start?

Our power went out an hour before we left. Getting ready was done in a semi-dark bathroom. We had cold spaghetti for supper.

We met Martina and her friend Shannon in line and it was freezing so we went to the pub next door for $7 (!!) Strongbows.

Mark Geary came on and the crowd was awful to him. They talked through his entire set and he just gave up after playing four songs and left the stage.

They closed the bars after Mark because a lot of people were very drunk and couldn't contain their urges to scream rugby/soccer cheers and etc.

The Frames came on to an English girl next to us yelling "Fuck the Irish!". What a nice welcome.

The drunk girls behind us wouldn't shut up and when Martina told them to they answered "What? We're not talking about HIM!" As if them talking, but not talking about Glen, was ok.

The guy standing behind Kim tried to hand his half-empty beer to Joe (because he'd want to drink it, obviously) and in the process, managed to spill half of it onto my jacket, into the lens of my camera and on my extra roll of film.

Despite all that, the show was really good. There was crowd singing and Glen was dancing and they played a nice mix of songs.

We were saying before that they'd be playing when midnight came and then it would be our birthday technically and Martina said that whichever song they were playing then would be dedicated to us. I went in wanting to hear only Pavement Tune and Martina caught my attention and pointed to her watch and it was midnight and they were playing Pavement Tune. Very nice.

All the good older songs were played during the encore. 'Star Star' into dEUS 'Hotellounge' into Sparklehorse's 'Most Beautiful Widow in Town' was especially great.

They finished off with 'Devil Town', accapella with snapping. Kim managed to get a video of the whole last part of it, including Glen doing a little dance. We're trying to put it up on our univeristy webspace. I'll link it if we ever manage to figure it out.

Glen left the stage with: "thanks to those of you that listened, and for those that didn't, we'll see you back in Ireland". That kind of summed up the evening pretty well.

So afterwards, we caught Mark to tell him sorry for the crowd and that we wanted to cry for him.

We talked to Rob, the guitar player with all that curly hair and then met Johnny the drummer. He asked if me and Kim were sisters and we said yes we're twins and added it's our birthday so he said: "Come next door and I'll buy yous a drink!"

He said yous!

I don't have a picture of him so here's one of them playing with all the maps at Borders in Boston. It makes me laugh.

He said that he would meet us there so we made our way out of the Opera House. We see Mark leaving with three girls and which three girls?

The three drunk ones behind us who wouldn't shut up and who were dressed in sknaky lingerie tops and had no clue who Mark even was before he stepped on stage.

So we went and had a drink and Johnny found us after last call so he just yelled "happy birthday, twins!". It was enough that he remembered.

Then Kim thought this Irish man sitting at the bar was the guy that spilled beer on my camera so she started pointing at him and yelling "you! YOU!!". It wasn't him. In fact, he was probably about 35 and the other guy was like 18. She's lucky she isn't a man because he probably would have taken her outside.

And then we saw Mark making out with the loudest of the three girls for a good ten minutes. We all stood there with our mouths open, not knowing what to say.

The Frames' temporary guitar player eventually went to Mark, picked him up and took him outside. It was funny but mostly sad.
